Kathryn Bernardo was surprised when she learned recently that Carlos Diego Loyzaga, the son of Cesar Montano and Teresa Loyzaga, recently signed a contract with ABS-CBN and is reportedly joining Mara Clara. The young actress revealed that she and Diego are actually schoolmates at OB Montessori Greenhills but added quickly that they are not acquainted with each other yet. “Hindi po [kami] magkakilala, nakikita ko lang po sa school [pero] sana makilala ko siya sa Mara Clara,” Kathryn said. She said that Diego, 15, is currently in second year high school.
The young actress also related that when Diego transferred to their school from Australia, there was a commotion because her classmates were curious about him. “Sabi nila, ‘May new student, ‘yung anak daw ni ganyan-ganyan.’ Tapos nagkagulo po ‘yung mga kaklase ko,” she shared.
Diego will supposedly play the role that was previously portrayed by Rico Yan before in the original Mara Clara and Kathryn is hoping to be friends with him in the future.
On the other hand, Diego said in his recent contract-signing that he is already gearing up for his upcoming acting project, but clarified that he will still continue his studies. He explained that he is taking advantage of the nearing school break because his parents made it clear to him that school is his priority.
With showbiz in his blood, Diego said that he is aware that his father is a highly respected personality in showbiz and hopes to make him proud someday. “I want to be able to say [that] the dedication that my dad put into his work po, I want to be able to put dedication in too. I want to be able to show him that I can do it also.” He added that he does not mind if people refer to him as Cesar Montano’s son and said that he sees it as an advantage.
However, he said that he is still getting used to his newfound celebrity status because he grew up in Australia not knowing that his parents were celebrities. “I’m still getting used to it ‘cause like I said, in Australia I’m just normal and here naman when people see me they don’t recognize me agad so it’s okay naman po.”  He admitted that there is pressure when you have celebs as parents but he said that he intends to make his folks proud.

Kathryn Bernardo, who plays Mara in the hit teleserye Mara Clara, said that although she is proud of their program’s huge success, she makes sure that she still keeps her feet on the ground. “Hindi ko naman nilalagay ‘yung success sa ulo ko. Thankful lang po kami [like] ‘yung directors, ‘yung co-stars ganyan maganda po ‘yung naging results. Maraming maraming salamat po sa mga walang sawang sumusporta sa Mara Clara gabi-gabi. Sana patuloy n’yo pa ring suportahan hanggang sa huli dahil sigurado pong marami kayong dapat aabangan dahil maraming twists na magaganap,” said Kathryn.

Asked if she finds the physical requirements for her role difficult, Kathryn replied smiling, “Worth it naman po ��yung sampal at sabunot.”

She continued, “Actually ‘yun po ‘yung gusto talaga namin, ‘yung masakit para po ma-motivate po kaming dalawa [ni Julia] (Montes, who plays Clara). Pero ‘pag naman po cut na back to Kathryn and Julia na kami. ‘Pag lang po take tsaka po kailangan naming gampanan ‘yung Mara at Clara. Minsan nga ‘pag mahina [sinasabi ko] ‘Lakasan mo pa!’ para ma-motivate talaga ako kasi ‘yun talaga ‘yung gusto namin. Kahit po kay Tita Dimples (Romana), Ms. Gina (Pareno) gusto po talaga namin ‘yung totoo.”

The actress also said that she already saw the video of a young girl, who cried so hard while she was watching the episode when Mara supposedly got killed in an explosion. She explained that she was surprised to see how deeply affected the girl was but she was flattered at the same time with the fan’s attachment to Kathryn’s role. “Hindi ko po in-expect na ‘yung mga tao talagang ganun po talaga napamahal si Mara sa kanila.”

Kathryn also shared that she is planning to make a video for the young girl so she can she can thank the avid fan, who resides in Chicago, USA and who is named Pamela. “Plan ko pong gumawa ng video para sa kanya para i-thank ko po siya tapos para i-comfort ko po baka hanggang ngayon depressed pa rin siya sa pagkamatay ni Mara,” said the young actress.

To the avid viewers of Mara Clara, who are still wondering if the character of Mara already died, Kathryn explained, “Sa mga nagtatanong po sa akin sa Twitter, sa Facebook kung ano po talaga ang nangyari kay Mara ngayong week po malalaman n’yo na ang nangyari kay Mara: kung namatay po ba siya o buhay. Kaya abangan n’yo po ‘yan sa Mara Clara.”
